M4A1 Sherman

1/35
Italeri

The base model is the venerable Italeri cast hull M4A1 that I carted around the world with me for 25 years. It was crisply cast, free of flash and  easy to build and modify. I added an aluminum 75mm barrel, some photo etched brush guards and the welded side armor protecting the driver and bow gunner. I also added some grab handles and a water sealing β€œlip” on the hatches. The tracks came from the Tamiya M4A3 105mm howitzer. Pretty good fit, no? I also added the wooden stowage shelf and other odds and ends. The base paint came out kind of dark for my taste, but Brett Jones came to my rescue with an awesome job of green filters and dry brushing on the port side. I need to watch and learn his technique to complete it.
