XF5U-1 Flying Flapjack

Kitty Hawk
Attack Squadron 48019 - Depth Charges
Vector VECVDS48106 - Resin Main Wheel Sets

This is a “What-If” version of Vought’s XF5U-1 Flying Flapjack. Prototype performance showed the aircraft to have low stall speeds. Because of this, I theorized that had the aircraft been available, it would have been used on the smaller escort “Jeep” carriers of Atlantic convoys. The kill markings show aircraft #4, shown here, has had success against the Luftwaffe and U-boats. In reality, pre-production units were built, but never flown as development was late in the war.
